Transformational Coaching & Emotional Intelligence

Elaine’s Journey

My name’s Elaine, I’m originally from Hampshire/Surrey and I’m an innovative, inspirational and international entrepreneur.

My journey of personal development began around the year 2000 when I listened to a CD by Susan Jeffers called “Feel The Fear and Do It Anyway”.

This concept of being able to overcome fears to achieve meaningful goals inspired me and became a strong desire in my life.

After graduating from the University of Bradford where I obtained a BA Hons in French and Spanish in 1998, I lived in France and Guadeloupe in the French West Indies for over 20 years. This was my training ground for overcoming a lack of self-confidence, the fear of public-speaking and developing the personal skills necessary for adapting to change and the unknown.

Whilst I was abroad, I started my own professional training practice in Paris in 2008 against the advice of many people. It was a tough learning curve but I traded for over ten years. My clients were mainly executives in international companies such as Apple France and included food companies such as Bio Springer and Lesaffre.

During my time in Paris, I obtained a license to support international managers in developing their cross-cultural skills enabling them to increase their intercultural competencies and perform better with team members from other cultures thus transitioning from pure business English training to coaching.

When I came back to live in England in 2019, I obtained a diploma in Transformational Coaching as well as an emotional intelligence accreditation

These skills are proving to be a great asset to people in leadership positions in companies that have survived the COVID crisis but that are having to adapt to new ways of working and to develop personal skills for these new and challenging environments.

My new home in The Lake District, Cumbria, is also where I was also inspired to create Vie’s Jamaican Rum Cakes in 2020. Vie’s Jamaican Rum Cakes is all about turning the loss of my mum, Vie, in 2018 into a legacy.

In 2021, Vie’s Jamaican Rum Cakes won the British Business Bank Startup Loans Delivery Partner Award for Startup Business of the Year 2020/2021.

Start-Up Business of the Year – Nominated by Transmit Startups

The most creative, innovative, and ambitious new business that has been funded in 2020/21. This business exhibits sound business planning, the ability to be sustainable and profitable, as well as a level of innovation and creativity in their industry. They clearly demonstrate a “Wow Factor” that is worth celebrating.

As a result of winning this award, I now mentor owners of start-up food businesses as part of the Transmit Startups mentoring programme.

In 2021, I decided to blend my experience in making successful transitions, transformational coaching and emotional intelligence skills with my food business activities. The result is a rich, innovative combined offer called Coaching & Cake which enables you to experience the challenge of coaching as well as the comfort of cake

Today, I partner with HR managers in the food industry to provide personal development solutions for rising and seasoned leaders.

The journey of developing emotional intelligence takes leaders from self-awareness (inner work) to experiencing deep, meaningful, and sustainable change which produces tangible performance results.

Transformation is facilitate through one-to-one and group coaching with the offer of an emotional intelligence assessment which is recognised by the British Psychological Society as a means of developing self-awareness.

You can choose from walk and and talk coaching in the beautiful surroundings of The Lake District or in a green space near you, face-to-face coaching and virtual coaching.

What is Emotional Intelligence?

Emotional intelligence is also called the Emotional Quotient, or EQ and it is a set of emotional and social skills that collectively establish how well we:

  • Perceive and express ourselves
  • Develop and maintain social relationships
  • Cope with challenges

Developing your emotional intelligence enables us to become more aware and in control of the emotions that are driving our thinking and behaviour and impacting others (positively and negatively).

How emotionally intelligent are you?

  • How well do you recognize, understand and manage your own emotions in challenging situations?
  • How often do you recognize, understand and influence the emotions of others?
  • How could your life change if you had a higher level of emotional intelligence?

Take an emotional intelligence assessment today to start your journey of self-discovery.

What is Transformational Coaching?

Transformational coaching is a very powerful means of supporting those who are in transition using a conversation-based approach which is client-focused and client-led.

It uncovers the need for change but doesn’t determine what it should look like.

Transformational coaching takes you on a journey from developing self-awareness to experiencing deep, meaningful, sustainable change as you encounter internal shifts along the way.

It is most effective with those who are committed to personal development and willing to take the necessary steps to get them from their current position to their desired destination.

What is Transformational Leadership?

Transformational leadership is often viewed as the gold standard of leadership and transformational leaders typically display the four ‘I’s:

1. Inspirational Motivation

2. Idealized Influence

3. Intellectual Stimulation

4. Individualized Consideration

Research shows that transformational leaders score significantly higher on the EQ-i 2.0 which suggests they have higher levels of emotional intelligence.

I gained a lot of insight into my thought patterns and perspectives.  I wouldn’t have questioned my way of thinking otherwise or looked into alternative views.  I found success in being vulnerable due to…Elaine[‘s approach. She] uses talking and walking in nature, with powerful silences where I was able to listen to what my inner child wants to say. I would highly recommend Elaine, because she was able to give me the space to express what I had suppressed in a safe environment that she has created“.

“It was truly amazing how much I learnt about my self in the 3 sessions I had with Elaine. I am extremely fortunate to live in one of the most beautiful places on Earth; the Lake District. Elaine’s Walk and Talk coaching approach meant we could step away from our desks and Zoom and talk without distraction. The sessions were relaxed and Elaine’s laid back yet informed approach really helped me to open up and I was able to express myself freely and without judgement. Being outdoors is not only good for body but also for the mind and soul! I was able to explain to Elaine how I felt certain parts of my personality hold me back at work, or make me less effective than I’d like to be so she gave me little exercises or thought processes to try out before the next sessions. Doing these has helped me really focus and increased my self-awareness, especially when I’m in meetings and during conversations online.  Taking yourself out of the work environment to reflect is an important part of growth and self-development and I’m so honoured to have been given the chance to do this with Elaine. Thank you.”

“I have thoroughly enjoyed working with Elaine. It’s been an inspired mixture of practical and psychological coaching, business development and deeper psychological issues. Each week…was revolutionary and developed and challenged me… we covered everything from insomnia, time management, guilt issues and setting SMARTER objectives for the future…. leaving me on quite a high, excited to have a robust plan for my business, and to have even been able to appreciate this natural pause and reflection period we have found ourselves inadvertently in. I have absolutely enjoyed every minute of it and can’t thank Elaine enough! It has been time well spent and got me through some very challenging circumstances with the most positive outcome!”
